Welcome to Screen Door
We sat down to write a much more formal introductory post, but truth be told, it just didn't feel right. Because Screen Door wasn't born out of formality, it was born out of familiarity.
Ultimately, the inspiration for Screen Door stems from our time in college where we lived in neighboring houses and spent our days running between porches to hang out and play music with our rag-tag group of friends who later became more like family.
It’s likely that some of the hours clocked jamming on those porches had something to do with the fact that we were on college budgets and couldn't afford to do much else, but we wouldn't have had it any other way. After all, we were always happiest with an instrument at our fingertips.
Today, there are a slew of songs that sound like all of those times spent singing with some of our favorite people. Uncle Tupelo’s song, Screen Door, is definitely one of them, as the lyrics go:
“Down here, where we're at
All we do is sit out on the porch
And play our songs, and nothing's wrong
Sometimes friends come around,
they all sing along”
We couldn't have said it any better ourselves.
In a way, this whole venture is one big love letter to our college friends. Without their influence, we would have never known the feeling of being surrounded by a steadfast, passionate community of creatives.
